Sand Springs Home was created in 1908 by Charles Page to be a place of love and security for children. He was committed to providing as home-like of an environment as possible, seeing that his kids have every opportunity that other children had. With his motto of “Think Right”, he expected right behavior and actions. He believed in the value of hard work. He also believed in children knowing how to laugh and play; as seen in his building of a local amusement park and taking the children on trips. He wanted the children to get a good education and good job skills for a successful life. Charles Page set an example for others in generosity and compassion, and his foresight causes his work to continue to touch the lives of children today.
We continue to carry out this mission today by providing family-style care in 2 co-ed cottages on campus. Each cottage has a houseparent couple who function as parents to the children in care. They provide nurturing support, structure, and discipline to the up to 8 children in their cottage. In our efforts for children in our care to have a high level of normalcy, all children attend public school, participate in church in the community, and are active in school functions, sports, and employment off campus.
We vacation together as a family and attend summer camp at Camp Charles. In order to maintain a family-style environment, we seek to admit children who will be with us for a longer period of time. Our average length of stay is around 3years. Many of our children stay long term, graduate from high school with us, and move into our Independent Living Program where we can continue to support them as they achieve a post high school education or work in our community.
