Thornwell is seeking fun, dedicated house parents to provide nurturing, family-style care in our Residential program. Ideal candidates are collaborative, committed, and enhance our positive, connected work culture!  

We provide you:  

  • Relocation assistance  
  • $2,000 sign-on bonus per individual/$4,000 per couple  
  • FREE community based off-duty residence for couples, with $100/mo utility stipend
  • Comprehensive Benefits (medical, dental, vision and life)  
  • 403B Retirement - 4% base contribution and 3% match
  • Average 13 days off per month  
  • 12 passenger van  
  • Food, restaurant, gas, activities and supplies when on-duty  
  • On-site Thornwell Child Development Center and Charter School serving both campus and community. Open to staff children (dependent on grade/class availability)

Our GORGEOUS Residential Campus, located in the Historic District of Clinton, SC, is close to both the beach and mountains, just a short drive to Greenville, Columbia, Charlotte or Atlanta! Our historic buildings, agritourism farm with annual festivals, full recreational facilities (plus local YMCA membership), on-site Charter School, tutoring services, and spiritual development activities make Thornwell the perfect place to call home!   

We have multiple cottages (serving 8 children of the same gender/age range) with 4 staff/2 couples or teams per cottage working 8days-on/6 days-off to allow consistency for children, and adequate work-life balance for staff. All cottages have private staff quarters, and there is 24/7 support so you are never on your own!  

Our Teaching Parents care for DSS and privately placed youth and are key to the success of Thornwell’s approach to care. The emphasis of our program is on Adoption and Relative Caregiver Stabilization and Preservation, utilizing trauma-informed, attachment-focused models of care. This position requires compassion and understanding for youth, and the ability to balance nurture and structure in daily work.
